The brigade was originally under the jurisdiction of the Kaohsiung Harbor Police Bureau of the Provincial Government Police Agency.

In order to execute the policy of "Separation of fire fighting from the Police" promoted by the Executive Yuan, The Taiwan provincial Government established the Kaohsiung Harbor Fire Brigade subordinated to the Fire Agency of the Taiwan Provincial Government on November 1, 1998. 

In compliance with "Provincial Downsizing Policy" on July 1, 1998, the brigade is under the command of the National Fire Agency Ministry of Interior now.
