Firefighting drones are classified according to tasks, where the budgets year by year are reasonable without waste.
Currently, there are a total of 233 drones used by local fire departments for disaster relief. In line with the policy "Prohibiting government agencies from procuring information and communications products of mainland brand names" promulgated by the Executive Yuan in 2020, various agencies in the public sector have successively replaced those information and communications products of mainland brand names already in use or will be in use (including hardware, software, and services) by 2021/12/31.
In order to respond to the different rescue situations and mission needs of various jurisdictions of counties and cities, the Executive Yuan has approved to subsidize the local governments in the procurement of 366 drones from 2022 to 2029, including the hoisting functions (to carry first aid supplies or life saving devices) associated with the drones used in mountain search and rescue or water search and rescue; the infrared lens for the thermal imaging associated with the drones used in fire scene surveys, so as to facilitate the search for fire spots and stranded persons.
In addition, the properties of the lens, payload, wind resistance, endurance, etc. associated with the drones may vary depending on the mission requirements; therefore, it is necessary to have the drones customized to meet the needs of fire and disaster relief, which is different from the drones general commercially available; hence, the procurement amount would also vary.
Governments at all levels have been specifically reminded, during the procurement process, to introduce the need for AI technology for disaster relief, so that drones that meet the needs of various disaster relief missions can be procured and the goals of various rescue missions can be completed.
