Strengthening extrication skills for car accidents, 12 domestic and foreign teams compete in the Challenge.
In order to continue to strengthen firefighters' extrication skills for car accidents, the National Fire Agency (NFA) held the 2024 Car Accident Extrication Challenge and the “Exhibition of Equipment and Apparatuses for Car Accident Extrication and Rescue Care” at the Nantou Training Center from today (20240829) to 20240830. Yesterday (20240828) evening, this event was kicked off with a Contestant Night, where the rules for the competition were explained and the order of the competition was determined by lot drawing, and the contestants also got the chance to exchange with each other on car accident extrication skills and experience.
Invitations to this Challenge event have been sent to various domestic firefighting agencies and foreign rescue units or groups for them to send their teams to participate. A total of 11 municipal and county (city) firefighting agencies have signed up for this event. In addition, Japan has also widely invited experts from various firefighting agencies in Japan to form teams to participate in this event in Taiwan. At the event, a total of 12 teams competing in this Challenge. The scenarios applied in this Challenge were planned with reference to the scoring guide for the World Extrication Challenge held by the World Rescue Organization (WRO) to include two (2) scenarios, namely “Standard Extrication" and "Complex Extrication". For the sake of referees’ consistent rulings, the National Fire Agency (NFA) conducted a referee workshop before the game, specially invited WRO experts to come to Taiwan as instructors to discuss with the referees the scoring methods, standard scoring scope, and scoring techniques for each competition scenario, so as to bring Taiwan’s car accident extrication competition into line with international standards.
At last, Director-General HSIAO Huan-Chang of the NFA hoped a great success for today (2024/08/29) and tomorrow's (2024/08/30) event and that all activities participating contestants could uphold the spirit of sportsmanship, trying their best to make the rescue process perfect during the competition. More importantly, through exchanges and cooperations among the industry, government, and academia this time, hopefully Taiwan’s car accident extrication skills could be enhanced with joint efforts, and all those using the road could benefit from such rescue skills.
