Today (2024/11/22), the "2024 Government Science and Technology Programs and Exhibition of Achievements in Science-and Technology-based Disaster Prevention and Relief" was organized by the Minister of the Interior (MOI). As per Minister LIU Shyh-fang, Taiwan suffered four typhoons in the second half of this year (2024), and our firefighting fellows, auxiliary firefighters, and volunteers have all made great efforts. This demonstrated Taiwan's high efficiency and unity in disaster prevention and relief, where gratitude was extended for the support of the business community in lending its helping hand under the situations of insufficient manpower and material resources. Meanwhile, LIU Shyh-fang also stressed the concept of "whole-of-society defense resilience" promoted by President LAI Ching-te, encouraging everyone to help each other when encountering natural disasters and jointly build a safer and more beautiful Taiwan. Today's achievements exhibition not only specifically presented the achievements of applied science and technology in the field of disaster prevention and relief, but also showcased the substantially strengthened overall disaster prevention and relief capabilities. With such achievements, the safety of our nationals' lives and properties can be more comprehensively guaranteed.

As per the Ministry of the Interior (MOI), the nation’s resilience in disaster prevention relies on the cooperation of partners from all walks of life. Today (2024/11/22), a liaison briefing for disaster prevention and relief volunteer cadres nationwide was held to not only discuss the feasibility of establishing a "National Disaster Relief Volunteers (DRVs) Association", but also for volunteer cadres to share their practical experiences and DRVs across the country to engage in exchanges. This arrangement helped fostering solidarity, and outstanding entities in the "Resilient Taiwan – Large-Scale Typhoon and Earthquake Preparedness and Collaboration Plan" were commended. Special thanks went to local governments, communities, Disaster Relief Volunteers (DRVs) across the country, and corporate disaster prevention representatives for their hard work and contributions in assisting with disaster relief. In addition, the eighty (80) Taiwan Community Emergency Response Teams (T-CERTs) that were presented with the T-CERT flag today will also effectively enhance Taiwan’s disaster response capabilities. In the future, the Ministry of the Interior (MOI) will also expand the array of T-CERTs according to needs to strengthen the all-out disaster prevention capabilities with all collaborative parties.

Apart from showcasing the latest disaster relief equipment and systems, today’s achievements exhibition also included the "2024 Annual Fire Technologies and Disaster Relief Forum" held along with the exhibition. Experts in the field of industry, academia ,and research were invited to share and inspire creativity to enhance the scientific and technological capacity in the fire services field, and jointly meet future challenge. Along with the main achievements exhibition, an exhibition of achievements from the first "Phoenix Cup" was also held to showcase the results of the contest on the invention and design works in the field of fire services, including works such as the fixed transporting half-body backboard assisting rescue care personnel in vertically transporting patients, the inflatable rescue stretcher assisting firefighters in rescuing trapped people quickly escaping from the fire scene, etc. It was hoped that the "Phoenix Cup" exhibition could encourage more people to continue to engage in innovative inventions in the field of fire services, thus enhancing the effectiveness of disaster prevention and relief work. Subsequently, assistances will be provided in the cultivation and promotion of outstanding invention and design works to promote the scientific and technological development of Taiwan’s fire services industry.

Moreover, the "Exhibition of Achievements on Fire Services Safety and Health Management Systems" was also held today, where various entities shared their experience in deployment of such systems which aimed to ensure personnel’s adequate protection during their performance of high-risk tasks, thus providing frontline disaster relief personnel with the most fundamental support and jointly creating a safer and healthier workplace environment for fire service personnel.
