Critical infrastructure such as those of electricity, water and gas can interrupt after the occurrence of a large-scale earthquake. Most of the people would stay home if their residence structure is intact and not about to collapse. At this time, daily necessities stored at home will be important to help them pass this critical period until they receive supplies from the outside world. The list of disaster prevention supplies can change depending on the needs of each family and members thereof. In general, mineral water, cans, instant noodles, food that can be immediately eaten without heating, dessert (ex. chocolate), nutritional supplements and so on. As for the elderly and infants who have special needs, essential medicines, diapers, wet tissues and milk powder are highly suggested. Other daily necessities include domestic water, toilet paper, sanitary products, plastic bags, dry batteries, flashlight and so on. All abovementioned supplies must be sufficient to maintain one’s life for three days.

Emergency reserve for general home is a temporary storage zone for food, clothing, housing and transportation. It is a temporary storage zone that requires frequent replacement instead of being a permanent warehouse that must be taken care of. In other words, they are extra food (ready-to-eat food must be a part thereof), bottled drink, batteries and battery-driven radio, cleaning appliance and drugs.

Supplies in the storage zone are not sealed or forbidden to be used in ordinary days. Not mentioning the food has the expiry issue and fully charged batteries also have the discharge issue.

In ordinary days, people can use the oldest food, supplies and batteries stored in the storage zone; and purchase sufficient drink, food and supplies during the next shopping.

Please ensure that all supplies stored in the storage zone are within the preservation period. If the supplies are arranged and placed on the rack according to the purchase date, people can place a ruler or indicator to separate the newest and oldest supplies. There is no need to substantially change the configuration of the storage zone each time. Instead, people can take the old supplies and move the ruler/ indicator. With respect to the newly purchased items, just put them in the location pointed by the ruler.
